On Friday evening, Elcons Employment Law HR & operations director Jo McMillan-Peel, attended the TAKE CARE event at Bingley Arts Centre.
The evening was centred around lived experience, resilience, and the importance of human connection in the face of life’s most challenging circumstances.
The event featured Lindsey Burrow, who shared a deeply personal account of her family’s journey. While much of the public will be familiar with the widely reported story of Rob Burrow’s diagnosis and his extraordinary courage in living with motor neurone disease (MND), Lindsey offered a powerful perspective from behind the scenes, the day-to-day reality of holding family life together while navigating uncertainty, pressure and profound emotional challenges.
Speaking after the event, Jo reflected on how impactful it was to hear Lindsey speak so openly and honestly.
The evening carried a strong sense of perspective, highlighting not only the importance of resilience, but also the often unseen strength required by families and carers supporting loved ones through long-term illness. Lindsey’s ability to balance honesty, warmth and strength throughout her story resonated strongly with those in attendance.
For Elcons, the themes of the evening align closely with the work we do every day supporting employers and leadership teams.
Conversations around wellbeing, empathy, and the importance of looking after people within organisations are increasingly central to workplace culture. Events such as TAKE CARE serve as a reminder that behind every role, business or headline, there are individuals navigating real-life challenges and that support, understanding and communication matter.
The evening also provided an opportunity to connect with others in attendance, including broadcaster Tanya Arnold, with whom Jo was able to briefly catch up with during the event.
Community-led events of this nature play an important role in bringing people together to share stories, reflect, and better understand the realities others may be facing.
Elcons was pleased to be represented at such a meaningful occasion, and to stand alongside others in recognising the importance of compassion, resilience, and care both inside and outside the workplace.
We would like to thank the organisers of TAKE CARE for hosting such a thoughtful and impactful event at Bingley Arts Centre, and to Lindsey Burrow for sharing her story with such openness and strength.
